Can Hands Hear?
Our bodies all tell a story, one that we don’t often recognize is being told, and it’s in a language far louder than words. It speaks to us in our muscular patterns, our posture, the way we hold our shoulders when we walk. We call this “body language”. This language isn’t only a matter of facial expressions or in wiggling our ears, however, but is a story of pain.
There are many reasons people seek out a massage — to relax, de-stress, have an hour or two in peace— but often, they come to relieve physical pain. Pain is one of the most powerful motivators towards seeking healing.
“Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” ― C.S. Lewis
We all, unknowingly or knowingly, hold patterns of internal pain that manifest themselves externally. The longer our internal tension has made an external impact, the more tending our bodies need to start rewiring our “muscle memory”. That internal tension can come from various sources— overthinking, environmental toxins, trauma. Our body doesn’t discriminate against the kind of pain that it needs to protect us from, whether emotional, mental or physical. It perceives it all as a threat.
“Pain is a request for change. It’s not there to punish you; it’s there to protect you.” — Dr. Perry Nickelson
Many of our clients are coming to us with all kinds of pain that some can identify and others cannot. It’s all part of their body language. And since our body has a language all its own, there has to be someone who can interpret that language. That is exactly what we strive to do at Hands That Hear — to be the muscle interpreters of the miracle that is the human body.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
So, why “Hands That Hear” and not “Hands That Heal”? We cannot promise to heal you — only God gets the glory there — but we can promise to hear you with two open hands.
It is with those two open hands that I warmly welcome you here. As we explore the wonders of the human body through therapeutic massage, I believe we are honoring our God-given design to self-heal, grow and change.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, glorify God with your body.”
So, the question remains: can hands hear? We believe they can. More importantly: what is your body telling you and are you listening?
