Story time! 📖 I started running again last week Story time! 📖 I started running again last week and making progress which felt SO good— until two days later I had sprained my ankle so badly I was on crutches. 🤪 I was so frustrated that I’d gone from actively exercising to being an invalid, yet I realized it forced me to take even better care of myself than I was before! He knows what we need most. So let’s take advantage of every moment, the times when we have energy and the times we are forced in bed, and see them each as appointed places to either grow or heal. ✨
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned i One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my field 👉🏼 being strong makes for a good therapist, but being patient makes for an excellent therapist. ✨
1️⃣ Swallowing. If you can’t figure out why 1️⃣ Swallowing. If you can’t figure out why you have to swallow so much during a massage, it’s because your lymphatic fluid (this is the pathway to which all the bad stuff is carried away!) is actually pumping faster! It’s most common during Manual Lymphatic Drainage on the neck because all lymphatic fluid eventually drains into the neck, where the majority of our lymph nodes reside. ☺️ How cool is that? 👏🏼 ⠀⠀ 2️⃣ Stomach gurgles. People apologize to me for this all the time, but it genuinely makes me ecstatic! This means peristalsis has kicked in, bringing movement to your digestive system, and that I’m doing my job well! 🥳 ⠀⠀ 3️⃣ Snoring. This is the one time snoring is music to my ears. 🎶 This means your parasympathetic, AKA your rest + digest, system has been activated, and hormones like serotonin and dopamine have been released! ⚡️ ⠀⠀ These are three sounds you should never apologize for during a massage again, because it is your body’s way of giving in and saying: “I’m going to work!” 👏🏼 And nothing could make me happier. ☺️
First time I’ve had both mama and baby (outside First time I’ve had both mama and baby (outside the belly!) on my table. ❤️ I massaged them both when little Zoe was just 24 weeks old in the womb at the time, and early on I could feel her move and kick in response. Meeting her in person was an amazing thing— she’s blue-eyed, attentive, and extremely sociable. ⠀⠀ On this particular day Zoe was fussing to be held, so I settled some pillows in the side-lying position so I could still perform her mama’s massage while she tried to feed her and hoped she’d fall asleep. Instead she mostly fussed and grabbed at her mama’s face, almost gouged her eyeball out, and flailed her arms. I finally rubbed some @doterra lavender on her feet and the back of her neck (next time it’ll be the first thing I do!), wrapped her in part of the weighted blanket, and she was asleep in minutes, as was her mom. This is one of the sweetest moments I’ve ever witnessed, taken and shared with permission. 💛

Alternative medicine has been around since the beg Alternative medicine has been around since the beginning of time; it’s traditional medicine that is new! There is thought-provoking history behind the motivation that made medicine change just over the past one hundred years, and it largely boiled down to this: people couldn’t patent plants. 🌿 They couldn’t patent the sun. ☀️ They couldn’t patent nutrition, movement, or touch therapy. 🏃🏻‍♀️ When it was realized that profit couldn’t be made off of alternative medicine, because the Lord was its Master designer, they patented the PROCESS. It’s time to shift our mindset of what “being healthy” really means. 💛🌿

It is truly one of my new favorite modalities, as it releases lymphatic and circulatory stagnancy, tight fascia, and muscular adhesions, which preps the body for the most effective deep tissue massage. 🤯 Here are some fun facts (& more coming soon in my stories!)👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Although widely-used today, cupping therapy is not new! One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C. 📜 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Cupping has been found to affect the body up to 4-10 cm into the tissues. 📏 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • There are roughly a dozen different types of cupping therapy — ones that use herbs, others that use heat and acupuncture needles. The type I perform is with silicone cups called “movement cupping”, which doesn’t leave purple marks. 💜 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Cupping creates REVERSE OSMOSIS through its negative pressure, which allows for better product penetration of all essential oils I use on the body. 🌱
I’ll always remember one of my massage instructo I’ll always remember one of my massage instructors telling us during class: “Right now I can scan my body and pinpoint exactly where my hidden tension is.” At the time I had no idea how he knew his body so well, but now I have become aware enough to know where every whispering ache is (and there’s quite a few today). Just like a cough can turn into a cold, a sore muscle can turn into a headache! Catch it before it’s too late! We were given these warnings for the purpose of heeding them.💡

Especially on this table— are you seeing all these layers of comfort?! 😅 I was telling one of my clients the other day that when I get my monthly massage I ask my MT to come to my office specifically to use my table, because it is just THAT comfortable. I’ve yet to find a better comparison. 🤪🤩

You don’t have to wait till the New Year, or the You don’t have to wait till the New Year, or the weekend, or something big to happen TO you to start something new FOR you. You can start over this very morning by making your health a priority in your life. For example, this morning I woke up and instantly grabbed an entire glass of water and mixed in some Diatomaceous Earth to immediately start purging, because I know today is going to be a long day and less sleep = less immunity! It can be that simple. Let’s head into this New Year— and new decade!!— strong. I know some of my own personal New Year’s resolutions in 2020 are to return to Haiti, become a certified reflexologist, and to have the best health I’ve ever had which will include getting more than one massage a month. 👏🏼 Anybody else? 🙋🏻‍♀️
