Instagram post 2164708635673646773_8485177369 Our neck and shoulder muscles get a lot of daily grief as we live in a media-dictated culture. 📲 Releasing them has to be a slow and patient process. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The following videos are a quick example of an Integrated session with me for those with chronic neck pain (any other upper body pain, like in the shoulder, has to be released FOLLOWING release in the neck, since they are connected.) Due to my Integrated sessions being CUSTOMIZED per individual my technique is always different, so these videos are just examples that merely scratch the surface. The following is an example of a protocol👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • One of the very first things I do in releasing neck tension is long, slow myofascial release along, and sometimes directly on, the posterior spine all the way up to the occiput. Myofascial release is generally critical for me to perform first, as it is the best way I can assess the health of the tissue and state of tension. This can take up most of my time before the muscles have released— and is also when people tend to fall asleep!— as it is incredibly relaxing (I personally think way more than Swedish massage 🤷🏻‍♀️). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • When myofasical release isn’t enough, I use a vibrational tool which does WONDERS (not pictured in video), which doesn’t require pressure of any kind yet is very effective. ⚡️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Once the superficial tension has eased I start working at a deeper level to find trigger points that are causing the main source of pain. 👊🏼⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • I generally end with a hot towel compress if the injury is not acute combined with @doterra essential oils that aid in pain relief. 💆🏻‍♀️💆🏻‍♂️

When water is impeded by a dam, every living creature within it is compromised! Your blood and lymph are meant to be flowing, not stagnant. (Remember ponds breed bacteria and fungi; rivers breed life!) ⠀⠀ Which are you— Are you a RIVER or a POND? ⠀⠀ Regardless, I do want to specially note that not all of us can exercise due to health reasons or physical limitations! In this case, you need to have someone else move out the junk for you! (Otherwise it’s gonna stay there 🙈) This is why massage therapy (and especially Lymphatic Drainage) is SO wonderful. You can’t run without feeling like you’ll pass out? You can’t do cardio without being exhausted? The answer is MASSAGE. This way you are still improving your circulation, lymphatic flow, and, therefore, your immune system all whilst never moving a finger yourself. ⠀⠀ Move, move, move. And if you can’t, get a massage.

Our muscles are more than a means of getting one place to the next, however. They are home to our happiest and saddest memories (that’s right, your brain isn’t the only place where memory resides!), all which impact us consciously or unconsciously. Massage therapy brings our negative memories to light, which is why emotional detoxification, or “somatic release”, happens. Somatic release is when a part of the body (muscle, fascia, bone) is “released” (via massage therapy, myofascial release, or chiropractic) that harbors a negative emotion and creates not only a physical release of tension, but an emotional one as well, which can be through crying, laughing, etc. I am a testament to this! When you receive a GOOD massage, one that is not rushed but intentional, you may start reliving some sad, even traumatic, memories you thought you forgot. This isn’t a bad thing; it’s your body’s attempt to bring negative emotions to the surface so they can finally be detoxed and healed. (This is why people are so much happier following a massage!) This is also one of the reasons some people can’t stand to be touched, because they are unconsciously not ready to deal with what may come to the surface. Some of us prefer to be in pain! But pain limits and contracts our muscles, which makes movement— and, therefore, lasting health— suppressed. We have to actively detox via receiving therapeutic touch to remain healthy on all levels. 🌿
